Festive film: Single All the Way

It’s Christmas Eve and that means it’s time to settle down with a glass of something and some festive cheese – which could be a slice of stilton or could be the hugely enjoyable SINGLE ALL THE WAY on Netflix. Yes, it’s very American, very Hallmark, and very ridiculous but isn’t that just what we want at this time of year – particularly when it is a cute gay romcom that isn’t about trauma or coming out or dealing with an unsupportive family. Peter (Michael Urie) is heading home from LA to New Hampshire for Christmas, but doesn’t want the annual nag from his parents about why he is still single. When plans with his current squeeze go awry, he persuades his best friend and roommate Nick (Philemon Chambers) to come with him – initially thinking they will pretend to be dating, just to appeas...

Amanda Georgiadis to represent Greece at Eurovision 2022

It's out of the box: Amanda Georgiadis will represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Earlier in September, Greek broadcaster ERT announced an open call for an internal selection, from which only 5 artists advanced to the final round. They were Good Job Nicky, Joanna Drigo, Elias Kozas, Lou Is and Amanda Georgiadis. Amanda stood out amongst the contenders and will represent Greece at Eurovision 2022. Amanda Georgiadis is a Norwegian singer of Greek heritage, born in the city of Tenfjord. She studied medicine before getting into the music industry and has been an avid eurofan for many years.  Her musical style mixes up modern pop electronic with folk and ambient sounds. The entry she submitted to Eurovision is, according to herself, an "emotional ballad". "Kill the Lone...

The Bulgarian rock supergroup is consisted by the Chilean lead singer Ronnie Romero, as well as drummer Stoyan Yankoulov, who previously represented twice Bulgaria along with Elitsa Todorova, in 2007 with the song "Water" landing on Top 5 and then again in 2013, with "Samo Shampioni", missing qualification. The remaining 4 other members are Bisser Ivanov, Ivo Stefanov, Dimiter Sirakov and X Factor winner Slavin Slavchev. "Intention" is a classic rock song with 80s vibes, with its own guitar riff moment. According to what the group had shared with Darik Radio: "The song raises the question of each of us’ p...

PHILADELPHIA – the film about AIDS and Gay Love that shook the world.

Maybe too few young LGBT+ friends know, remember or have even ever watched this movie, but Philadelphia was and still is one of the first movies that opened the eyes of the world on the stigma of AIDS, Homosexuality and the gay community. On this World Aids Day I am willing to take you back in time, to when in 1993 (Europe saw it in 1994) Philadelphia (the movie) was released in the cinemas across the USA, touching the hearts of so many people, and talking about a very harsh, too often unspoken, issue: HIV stigma and homosexuality.  It is a movie that is hard to face, especially in some scenes, and because of the language used in it: but it is part of the real world that LGBT+ and HIV+ people had to face in those years. A movie that I remember having watched several times and different...
