DRAG RACE UK Star, Veronica Green, releases her debut single “STARS”

A talented and gifted artist - we fell in love with during Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Rage UK -  that finally releases her first single. STAR is the title of Veronica’s debut song, and no, it is not what you would expect from a typical drag queen: she’s serving you ballad realness, with a song rich of pumping beats, comedy and emotional lyrics strongly influenced by her love for musical theatre. She said: “it is the perfect introduction to my musical world. I think a lot of people will relate to this song, coming from small towns and villages and finding their place and acceptance in a big city. […] It's a big musical theatre-style pop song that provides the perfect introduction to my musical world." 'Stars' is written and produced by Ian Masterson (alongside Hayley Sanderson) who has ...
Trans conversion therapies: more than 50% of ex-patients attempted suicide.

Trans conversion therapies: more than 50% of ex-patients attempted suicide.

This shocking and still so true news is the result of a study conducted in October 2020 by the Gender Identity Research & Education Society, the LGBT Foundation, the Ozanne Foundation and Stonewall. It is scary to read that 9 out of 10 trans and non-binary patients who were treated with conversion-therapies, have then experienced symptoms of anxiety and depression, but it is even worts to read that at least half of them have attempted suicide. The research that you can read here, also found that gender identity conversion therapy is “more widespread and often more violent” than most people actually realise. These therapies too often force their “patients” to unwanted nudity, and include corrective rape, food and sleep deprivation, physical and verbal abuse, as part of the “cure”.  T...

Italian extreme-right wing Party blocking a proper law against homophobia

Lega Party and his leader, Matteo Salvini, are obstructing the discussion and the approval of the so called Zan bill, showing once again, how racist and homophobe they can be. The discussion of the Zan bill (that takes the name from the MP that first proposed it), has been stopped once again from Lega - the Italian extreme-right-party - because according to the leader, Matteo Salvini, "Italy does not need a new law regulating acts of homophobia, as laws in Italy already punish all acts of racism and hate and because this law is divisive and not foreseen by the government programme." This is what also, another fascist leader of the Italian Parliament - Giorgia Meloni - repeatedly affirms, adding also that if the Zan bill is approved, Italian citizens would loose every right to their...

This is my TOP 5 for #ESC2021 with #Titina21

Becoming a Titiner and loving it; Selecting my Top5 For Eurovision Song Contest and loving it even more! With the victory of Duncan Laurence in 2019, the contest moved from Tel Aviv to Rotterdam, an expected return on Dutch soil after 45 years since their last victory. The 65th edition of the show will surely be remembered as the first in history to be postponed (due to Covid-19) but also as the first to be aired without a live audience (which I am afraid it might probably have a negative impact on the show). While 34 out of 40 participating countries will have to compete in the two semi-finals to gain a ticket for the grand final, the 'Big Five', joined by The Netherlands, will 'only' need to worry about bringing a decent act on stage. But the question still remains, year after...

BFI Flare film recommendation: AIDS Diva

Today is the last day of BFI Flare and there are so many great films to watch – I can pretty well recommend any of them. So dive in and enjoy a final day of fabulous queer film – features and shorts, dramas and documentaries. The film I want to talk about – AIDS Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman – is not the biggest or the best, but one which really spoke to me, probably because the threads of fighting a devastating virus and a lack of government care, trans oppression and police violence are still, tragically, as true today in the UK as they were in 1980s and 1990s Los Angeles. Connie Norman was an activist and member of ACT Up in Los Angeles, a trans woman who was HIV positive, a former drag queen and drug addict. She was angry at her oppression and the government’s dilatory approa...

BFI Flare film recommendation – Boy Meets Boy

Boy Meets Boy is a tender debut film following Harry and Johannes as they spend a day together in Berlin. It is akin to Weekend set in Berlin, or a gay Before Sunset, and that is no criticism, seeing as those are two of my favourite films. Brit medic Harry is on a weekend break in Berlin and meets local dancer Johannes in a nightclub where they share a kiss – and then decide to spend the day together before Harry’s evening flight. The film rolls with them through their day where they talk about sex and relationships, go out for brunch, meet some Mormons, report a theft at the police station and discuss what happiness is. The actors’ chemistry is palpable and their dialogue funny, interesting and naturalistic – it sounds truthful, whether it was improvised or scripted. We root for the...

BFI Flare Film recommendation – My First Summer

This delicate, ethereal debut feature from Australia follows two teenage girls who meet after Claudia’s mother dies. Grace is bolder, more confident, and brings energy into Claudia’s life, expanding her horizons. Grace, an isolated young woman, finds deep friendship. Both of them are otherworldly and naïve, and their companionship brings them great joy as it develops into love. Like last year’s German film Cocoon, this film is gorgeously steeped in nature – the pair lie in the grass, use plums to dye their sheets, and revel in a country summer. Nature, particularly water, has its dangers but these girls are finding their way in the world, making the most of it and beginning to hit against what society wants of them. With a gorgeous, ethereal vibe, this is a film to bask in and enjoy ...

Road To Eurovision: Italy, Portugal and San Marino’s Entries.

What a week for Eurovision Lovers like us! Three entries, three new songs, and 2 almost unexpected entries to the competition in Rotterdam. The very first big surprise was given to us by Sanremo 2021 - the Festival of Italian Song - that crowned Måneskin as the winners of this edition with their song "Zitti e Buoni". Since a few years now, this Italian selection also decides who will represent the country - that almost won ESC in 2019 with Soldi by Mahmoud - on the stage of Eurovision contest. Måneskin come almost as unexpected winners because of their music background which is rock, explicit and real and goes far from the classical pop, melodic song that Sanremo got all Italians used to.  This group will surely rock the stage in Rotterdam putting the audience to choose which rock t...

Måneskin win Sanremo 2021 and fly to Eurovision 2021 to rock that stage

Historical win for the long-lasting Festival of the Italian Song - Sanremo 2021 - that sees a rock band winning the competition against all odds. It was already over 2 am in Italy and the Festival of Sanremo 2021 crowned their winner. Måneskin triumphed on that stage and demonstrated (again) to the whole world - actually shocking Italy - that talent shows do work and are able to discover amazing talents. Månesking is an Italian rock band consisting of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The band rose to fame after ending up second in the 12th Italian version of XFactor (2017). "Zitti e Buoni" (tr. shut up and calm) is a rock song that will shake the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, were Månes...
