Turbulent moments for the ex-Little Mix member Jesy Nelson accused of Blackfishing by Leigh-Anne Pinnock

When everything seemed settled and calm, and Jesy finally released her first solo hit on 8th October 2021, featuring Nicki Minaj, here you have a new drama!

Apparently, Jesy Nelson faced allegations of “blackfishing” – this is a term that refers to a white person who appropriates Blackness by using make-up, fake tan, lip fillers, and appropriating styles made popular by Black people. And guess who was this person who started it all? Apparently – staying to what the influencer NoHun said – it was her ex bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock that accused Jesy of Blackfishin in a private messages exchange on Instagram (and apparently, some screenshots of said conversation leaked on the internet).

Leigh-Anne called Jesy a “horrible person” saying she should be called out publicly for blackfishing fans.

Not so long after (yesterday 11th Oct) Nicki hosted a live session on her IG profile and that is when the tones got really hot!!

Nicky is well known for being direct, for having no filters at all, and that is what her fans love about her: the conversation during the live on IG was clearly not made of sweet words.

Nicki hit out at the “clown s**t” discussion and said Nelson’s former bandmates should be supporting Jesy instead of tearing her down, especially after all she had already been through until then.

Nicki said: “Sweetheart, take them text messages and shove it up your f**king ass,”…“Let her enjoy this time. If you was in this woman’s group and you ain’t talk about this s**t for 10 years, and as soon as you see she’s got a video coming out with Nicki Minaj.”

Nicki then continued: “Print them text messages out, bust your ass open and shove it up your mother**king ass. OK? And stop trying to hurt people and kill people’s lives and career.”

Nicki Minaj went on to suggest that Pinnock and her Little Mix girls are simply jealous of the fact that Nelson now has a solo career: “Stop. If you want a solo career, baby girl, just say that,” … “You can go out and put your own music. We’re gonna support you and love you. That’s it. You don’t have to attack someone else. If that’s how you felt, why were you kiki’ing with her and being in the videos with her for 10 years?”

Reactions from Little Mix’s fans did not take long to appear on Twitter.

Jesy addressed the blackfishing allegations during her Instagram Live with Minaj and said she never intended to “offend people of colour” with the music video, but that instead, she wanted to “celebrate” ’90s R&B because “that era of music is what I love”, and added: “It actually does really hurt me that may have offended people”.

She also claimed that Leigh-Anne had addressed blackfishing with her previously, but only after they had filmed their “last music video”.

More to come on this case.
