Eurovision 2027 Countries: Ireland Is Out, North Macedonia Is Back, and Canada Is Coming

The Eurovision 2027 countries list is already becoming one of the most interesting parts of the road to Burgas. Ireland has confirmed it will stay away for a second consecutive year, North Macedonia is making its long-awaited return and Canada is preparing to compete at Eurovision for the first time.

The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will take place at Arena Burgas in Bulgaria, with the semi-finals scheduled for 11 and 13 May and the Grand Final on 15 May 2027. Bulgaria is hosting after DARA won Eurovision 2026 in Vienna with Bangaranga, delivering the country’s first Eurovision victory.

Ireland will not participate in Eurovision 2027

Irish broadcaster RTÉ confirmed on 17 September that it will not participate in or broadcast Eurovision 2027.

RTÉ said its position remained unchanged from 2026 and stated that it could not justify participation given the continuing loss of life and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The broadcaster also cited concerns about restrictions on independent international journalists entering the territory.

Eurovision director Martin Green expressed regret over the decision while saying the EBU respected RTÉ’s position and regarded Ireland as a valued member of the Eurovision community.

For Eurovision fans, Ireland’s absence is particularly notable given its history in the competition. The country has won seven times, although its most recent victory came in 1996.

North Macedonia is back after four contests away

While Ireland remains out, North Macedonia is officially returning.

The EBU confirmed that broadcaster MRT will participate in Burgas after sitting out four consecutive contests. North Macedonia last competed in Turin in 2022 and has taken part in Eurovision 21 times overall. Its best result came in 2019 when Tamara Todevska’s Proud finished seventh overall after winning the jury vote.

A returning country always adds something special to Eurovision season. Four years away is long enough for an entire generation of national-selection drama to have happened without you.

Welcome back.

Canada will make its Eurovision debut

There is another major change coming in 2027: Canada will compete at Eurovision for the first time.

CBC/Radio-Canada has already launched the process to find the artist who will represent the country in Burgas. The broadcaster’s plan is to select the performer first and then develop the song with music-industry collaborators.

Canada’s arrival gives Eurovision 2027 another intriguing storyline and expands an event whose participating line-up is already evolving before national-selection season properly gets under way.

Which countries are competing in Eurovision 2027?

The definitive participant list is still developing, so this article will be updated as broadcasters confirm their plans.

That is exactly why this page is worth bookmarking. Rather than publishing a new article every time another broadcaster says yes or no, TGM will keep this page updated with the major confirmations, returns and withdrawals on the road to Burgas.

What we already know is that Eurovision 2027 will not simply repeat Vienna. One historic participant is staying away, a familiar Balkan country is returning and a brand-new Eurovision nation is preparing to make its debut.

And we have not even reached October yet.
