Greece Opens Its Eurovision 2027 Search: Babes, National Final Season Is Back

Summer is over. The spreadsheets are coming out. Somebody somewhere is already arguing about jury percentages.

Yes babes, Eurovision national final season is officially waking up.

Greek broadcaster ERT has opened submissions for Sing for Greece 2027, the competition that will select Greece’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas next May.

And this isn’t going to be a quick little “here are three songs, choose wisely” situation.

We’re getting up to 20 songs, two semi-finals and a Grand Final.

We missed the chaos.

Greece Eurovision 2027 starts with 20 potential entries

Artists and songwriters can submit songs until 1 November 2026 at 23:59 Greek time. ERT will select up to 20 entries for Sing for Greece, splitting them across two semi-finals.

Then comes the fun part.

The Greek public gets complete control of the semi-finals.

No juries quietly ruining your favourite bop before it reaches the final, huns. The 12 songs progressing to the Grand Final will be chosen exclusively by the public vote. Once we reach the Grand Final, however, the adults enter the room.

Or at least the juries do.

The public chooses the finalists — then the juries arrive

The final Greek representative will be chosen through a combination of public and jury voting.

ERT has not simply announced an internal act and asked us all to trust the process. Greek viewers will again get a substantial role in deciding who gets the ticket to Bulgaria.

So the format is pleasantly easy:

Semi-finals? Public.

Grand Final? Public + juries.

Winner? Pack for Burgas.

We appreciate Eurovision maths that doesn’t require an Excel qualification.

And yes, Eurovision 2027 is by the beach

This year’s destination is Burgas, Bulgaria, which will host Eurovision for the first time after DARA won the 2026 Contest in Vienna with Bangaranga.

The two Semi-Finals take place on 11 and 13 May, with the Grand Final on 15 May 2027 at Arena Burgas.

And Burgas sits on the Black Sea coast. So Eurovision 2027 is essentially giving us songs, sequins, delegations, questionable sleep patterns and a beach.

Queer summer camp, but with national broadcasters.

Greece has some Eurovision history to live up to

Greece has competed at Eurovision 47 times and has one victory: Helena Paparizou’s My Number One in 2005.

That win took the Contest to Athens the following year and remains one of the country’s defining Eurovision moments. But Greek Eurovision history contains plenty of other fan favourites too — from Sakis Rouvas to Kalomira, Marina Satti and Klavdia.

So whoever wins Sing for Greece 2027 isn’t simply getting a plane ticket.

They’re stepping into one of Eurovision fandom’s most recognisable national traditions.

No pressure, darling.

Sing for Greece is becoming a proper fixture

ERT says it is bringing the format back after strong interest from both artists and viewers during the previous selection, with the three competitive shows attracting substantial audiences on ERT1 and ERTFLIX.

And an open selection gives us something Eurovision fans particularly enjoy: opinions!

Lots of them.

Songs to rank. Performances to overanalyse. Camera angles to complain about. A completely reasonable emotional attachment to an artist we’ve known for approximately seven minutes.

This is why national finals exist.

Twenty possible entries. Twelve finalists.

One Greek representative.

And several months of fandom behaving completely normally about all of it.
