We watched the whole first night of Festival di Sanremo 2022 and we think we might have found our winners in Mahmood and Blanco.
The first semifinal of Sanremo 2022 is now over, and the Festival of the Italian Songs gave us all great moments of show that almost made us forget the fact that the show always lasts for an eternity. Positive note: the last singer – Giusy Ferreri – was introduced on the stage before midnight Italian Time (groundbreaking!).
Nothing can compare the emotions, the tears, the shivers we all had watching Måneskin singing their success “Zitti e Buoni” – the same song that allowed them to win Sanremo 2021 and Eurovision Song Contest 2021 – but when they sang “Coraline” and Damiano had teary-eyes, well.. put it together with the strong and profound lyrics of that song, we got carried away in a stream of emotions and heartbeats.
What to say about the runner-up of Eurovision 2019 and winner of Sanremo 2019, Mr. Mahmood that this year is participating to the Festival with BLANCO?
Boy oh boy, if that was a show on the stage of Festival di Sanremo 2022, and the press room elected this duo, winner of the first night.
The song is a love message, a hard one, especially for a person that is unable to express him-selves in a clear way. The lyrics reads: “Non so dirti ciò che provo, è un mio limite, Per un ti amo ho mischiato droghe e lacrime” [tr. I am unable to tell you what I feel, this is a limit of mine. To tell you “I love you”, I mixed drugs and tears].
The official music video, shows Mahmood in a relationship with another boy, while BLANCO is with a girl, but eventually the two of them meet on a deserted road while trying to “fly away” on a bike made of crystals.
What is very interesting is that, even though Mahmood never officially came out as gay, in this video the intention to show himself for who he really is, is strong.
I have the strong feeling that we are in front of a very (but veeeeery) possible winner of Festival di Sanremo 2022 and a returner to Eurovision Song Contest.
