The UK has made their choice: Olly Alexander will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden.
..and I couldn’t be happier!!
The UK has decided, ain’t it?

What a fantastic surprise has this been for me! I feel so motivated to restart our #RoadToEurovision with #Titina24!
One of my favourite singers in the whole planet, the one I’ve been listening to since their very debut with Year&Years with “King”!
Olly Alexander has been chosen to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö: one more reason not to miss this event!
The news appeared first on BBC Strictly Come Dancing where Olly Alexander and the entire BBC offered the gayest 8 minutes of British Television so far.
And of course, Olly posted about it on his social media (IG).
Olly’s UK Eurovision song, co-written with Danny L. Harle, will be revealed in due course…let’s just wait. I have faith it will be a great song, that will allow the UK to redeem themselves after so many years of almost zero points.
Who is Olly Alexander?
Oliver Alexander Thornton is a singer and actor from the lovely city of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, he became famous to the world with the indie-pop band Years&Years (formed in 2010) back in 2014, even though, their most successful single was “King”, released in March 2015, that is embedded in our hearts for sure.
Together with Years&Years, Olly Alexander climbed the charts of the whole world, and became one of the most listened singers of the whole UK, achieving two number one albums on UK Albums Chart, a number one single and five top ten entries on the UK Singles Chart.
Olly is also a dancer, and an actor.
Olly’s career as an Actor
Alexander’s acting career began in the film Summerhill released in 2008, but it is with It’s A Sin by Russel T. Davies, where Olly has the leading role in the whole series, that he reaches the biggest notoriety as an actor.
The Series It’s A Sin depicts gay life in the 1980s and early 1990s, and the onset of HIV/AIDS: so if you have not yet watched it, do it ASAP!
The show and Olly’s performance earned critical acclaim, with some critics expressing their desire for Olly to win a BAFTA for his performance: it did not arrive, though.
I recommend that…
I honestly recommend you to watch Olly Alexander’s documentary, released in 2017, called “Growing Up Gay”. In this documentary you will be able to see Olly at his finest: being an advocate for the LGBTQI+ community and openly discussing mental related issues.
Bravo Olly!
I wish you good luck at Eurovision Song Contest 2024!
