3 September 2026: Police have now confirmed that the deadly Tucson gay bar shooting was a targeted attack motivated by hatred of the LGBTQ+ community.
The confirmation changes a crucial element of the story. When The Gayly Mirror first reported the killings outside Venture-N, authorities were still investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
That investigation has now established the motive.
Tucson Police said evidence recovered from the home of gunman Ousman Ceesay, 44, included a note confirming that he acted alone and that the shooting was specifically motivated by anti-LGBTQ+ hate.
Ceesay shot and killed Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, in the car park of Venture-N before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators found no apparent previous connection between Ceesay and the victims.
Police have also contacted other LGBTQ+-associated businesses referenced in evidence recovered during the investigation and say there is no known active threat to the community.
The confirmation makes what happened in Tucson painfully clear.
This was not simply a shooting that happened to take place outside a gay bar.
The LGBTQ+ community was the target.
Tucson’s queer community continues to mourn Vincent and Cameron while gathering around the venues and people that were deliberately placed in the gunman’s sights.
