PHILADELPHIA – the film about AIDS and Gay Love that shook the world.

Maybe too few young LGBT+ friends know, remember or have even ever watched this movie, but Philadelphia was and still is one of the first movies that opened the eyes of the world on the stigma of AIDS, Homosexuality and the gay community. On this World Aids Day I am willing to take you back in time, to when in 1993 (Europe saw it in 1994) Philadelphia (the movie) was released in the cinemas across the USA, touching the hearts of so many people, and talking about a very harsh, too often unspoken, issue: HIV stigma and homosexuality.  It is a movie that is hard to face, especially in some scenes, and because of the language used in it: but it is part of the real world that LGBT+ and HIV+ people had to face in those years. A movie that I remember having watched several times and different...

World AIDS Day – 5 golden rules to prevent HIV infections

Sex is one of the most satisfying activities for the greatest number of human beings. But sex does not only involve your body... it must also involve your head, as if it does not, then we run serious risks. Having a fulfilling sexual life is fundamental for many people of different ages, and we do agree that sex is also a fantastic way to explore our bodies and become one only body with the other person(s) and to share with them a spiral of feelings and emotions that no words can express. So we thought about 5 golden rules to respect and follow to enjoy sex as much as possible and reduce the risk of contracting HIV, but before you start reading them, there is something you always have to remember. Sex is something you make using both your head and your body, so please, always feel your...

Santa’s Gay Love is what we all need for Christmas

Santa Claus pictured in a gay-love relationship in this heartwarming Norwegian tv spot, and marks 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Norway (1972). The Norwegians Postal Services this year decided that yes, they wanted to promote their (apparently very reliable and on time) services, but they also wanted to touch the heart of millions of people… and not only in Norway. The clip depicts the developing and always stronger relationship between Santa Claus and another man, who he visits each Christmas over a number of years. https://youtu.be/tyQ6qD-u-J8 The clip is impressive, not only because it pictures Santa Claus in love with a man, but because it also touches themes which are very delicate and too many times left unspoken, such as loneliness and that feelin...

Switzerland announces dates for the first same-sex weddings in the country

After the life-changing referendum in the country, Switzerland announced that same-sex weddings will take place from 1st July 2022. You will surely remember the great victory of that 64.1% of voters that wanted equal rights for the Swiss population, and now, the government finally announced that the first same-sex weddings in the country will start to be celebrated from 1st July 2022. We do have to remember though, that since 2007, the country has allowed civil partnerships for same-sex couples. This big change in the constitution of the country, will also mean that same-sex couples will be allowed adopt children together, that was only restricted to straigh-married-couples in Switzerland before this law.  The Swiss Government also announced that starting on 1st January 2022, Sw...

UK: the NHS announces a game-changing HIV treatment injected just six times a year for all patients.

A new long-lasting injectable treatment is approved for use in the United Kingdom, and this could really improve the lives of those living with HIV. Could this be called a “liberation” from the daily tablet(s) treatment HIV patients are used to so far? Just today, in the UK, the NHS has been given the go-ahead to roll out injections taken every two months to manage the virus: results for this research were announced back in December 2020 here.   The new treatment approved by England and Wales’ National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Scottish Medicines Consortium today, is a combination of two jabs taken every two months: this could actually help to ease the emotional burden of having to take daily tablets (1 to 4 generally) and something like 13,000 people w...

Italy: protesters in the streets to support ZAN Anti Homotransphobia Bill

The Italian LGTB+ population and that huge majority of Italians that love and want Civil Rights for all, started a huge protest after Zan Bill got stopped during its run to become a law. Zan Bill - Anti Homotransphobia - had already been bounced, delayed and longly discussed before getting completely stopped two days ago in the Italian Senate, and unfortunately the images we saw of that vote, were images that could only belong to a nation of troglodytes. But Italy is not the country that those fascist political parties want to picture: Italy is a nation of good-hearted and civil people that have detached themselves from the politics long ago, and that show huge support to LGBT+ rights. From TV hosts to the Streets of the major cities, peaceful but impacting protests and messages have s...

British Airways and their new gender-neutral greetings approach.

British Airways is not the first nor the last, but surely the latest airline to drop the old “ladies and gentlemen” greeting on-board in favour of gender-neutral greetings. We maybe needed a lockdown to allow many airlines to rethink their strict policies and open their views on social issues too, but apparently this change of announcement has been made in order to “reflect the diversity” of the always larger number of children travelling after lockdown and the increasing recognition of trans and non-binary customers flying onboard of their aircrafts. Pilots and Cabin Crew members have been asked to use gender-neutral language when making their pre-flight announcement and welcome speeches. We might find that the old “ladies and gentlemen” could be replaced by “passengers” or “guests”. ...

National Coming Out Day 2021 – Love and embrace your-real-self!

National Coming Out Day 2021 marks again an important milestone for the LGBT+ Community from all around the world, and on this day, we really should be taking a moment for ourselves and understand why Coming Out is so important for us and our wellbeing.  National Coming Out Day was created by Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary to inspire future generations of LGBT+ people to express themselves and their identity publicly, with no fears and proudly. Are there benefits from Coming Out? Yes, there are. And we shall not underestimate their importance. First of all we need to understand that coming out can have positive mental health benefits on us: too many LGBT+ people feel pressure every day when trying to hide part of themselves, and keeping their identities a secret can feed low se...

Raffaella Carrà: why was she so loved by the LGBT+ people?

Raffaella Carrà the Italian and International Gay Icon who never understood why she was so loved by the LGBT+ people. In one of her interviews she once admitted that she really did not understand why she became such a powerful and loved Gay Icon. Raffaella, died yesterday at the age of 78, since the very first appearance on tv, with a natural simplicity, was able to wreck tabus, to sing of sexual freedom, female empowerment, independence and, of gay loves, with a big smile on her face. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ8_q5SBTM-/ Raffaella Carrà, back in 1978, on Rai1 - the equivalent of BBC1 in Italy - sang "Luca". This was a song about her love for this beautiful and stunning guy, who all of a sudden, she lost contacts with. One day - as she tells us in the song - she saw him from ...
