The Catholic Church and LGBTQ+ “inclusivity”

“Gay Priests? About Bloody Time, Catholic Church!” 🌈✝️

Hold onto your rosaries, dolls, because the Catholic Church is finally showing the tiniest sliver of progression. New guidelines reportedly suggest that gay men might – might – be allowed to become priests. But before we start throwing glitter in celebration, let’s take a closer look at this hot mess.

The Catholic Church, infamous for its long-standing homophobia and exclusionary practices, seems to be dipping a reluctant toe into inclusivity. These new guidelines, while not groundbreaking, hint that gay men who remain celibate may be deemed “worthy” of serving God. Gee, thanks, Vatican – how generous of you. 🙄

But here’s the gag: queer people have always been in the church. From the choir directors serving soprano realness to the priests who’ve secretly wrestled with their identity, LGBTQ+ individuals have been part of this institution forever. The idea that a gay man could be a priest isn’t radical – it’s simply acknowledging reality.

And… what?

What’s infuriating is the continued insistence on celibacy as a condition. Why is it that queer love is always demonised, while heterosexual priests (some of whom have had more scandals than Vogue covers) are rarely held to the same scrutiny? 🤷‍♂️

Let’s not forget that this is the same institution that has perpetuated harmful rhetoric, ostracised queer individuals, and made countless LGBTQ+ Catholics feel like second-class citizens. And now, they’re patting themselves on the back for what? A vague suggestion that gay men might belong in the clergy – but only if they suppress a fundamental part of who they are?

It’s 2025, love – the world has moved on, and so should you. The Catholic Church needs to do better. Accepting queer people as priests is the bare minimum. How about also addressing your archaic teachings on sexuality, creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ Catholics, and owning up to the damage you’ve caused?

Queer people deserve full acceptance, not conditional approval. This isn’t a blessing – it’s a breadcrumb tossed from the table of an institution that has done everything in its power to keep LGBTQ+ folks away. But if we’ve learned anything, it’s that queer resilience knows no bounds. 💪🌈

Until then, let’s keep holding them accountable and pushing for real, unapologetic change. Because as far as we’re concerned, love is love – whether it’s on the altar, in the pews, or waving a rainbow flag in the streets. 🏳️‍🌈✨
