Film recommendation: Strong Island

Watch this topical documentary as we all reflect on racial injustice, families and the power of a strongly told story. On top of a global pandemic, two issues are now dominating the news and internet, with worldwide Black Lives Matter protests and JK Rowling’s ill-conceived intervention in the debate around trans lives (a debate fostered mainly by cis white women). So what better film to watch this week – to think, reflect and learn – than Yance Ford’s documentary Strong Island on Netflix. Nominated for an Oscar in 2018, it is a film about racial (in)justice, made by a trans filmmaker. William Ford Jr, the director’s older brother, was just 24 when he was murdered by a 19-year-old white man, Mark Reilly, after a petty argument in a garage. But Reilly walked free after minimal investiga...

Dear Class of 2020 – Beyonce’s Touching speech

Dear Class of 2020 is a virtual commencement celebration bringing together inspirational leaders and artists to celebrate graduates, their families, and their communities. And today we chose Beyoncé's celebrative video, where  the artist touches so many delicate, interesting and still heavy problems for this society...worldwide. Sexism "The entertainment business is still very sexist, is still very male dominated. And as a woman, I did not see enough female role models giving the opportunity to do what I knew I had to do". Beyoncé has been always fighting to let the world understand that there must be space for everyone at our tables, like she has made space for all diversities at her table (talking about her label and company). "One fo the main purposes of my art for many years h...

Musilicious celebrates Xtina’s Bionic Album

Another infant prodige to be celebrated today with Musilicious. She's the Genie in a bottle, a fighter, and one of the most powerful voices of the entire world today. Musilicious celebrated Xtina Aguilera and her album Bionic, as always in less than 5 minutes with some juicy curiosities. Check it out! https://www.facebook.com/thegaylymirror/videos/303485850650252/

Film Recommendation: Appropriate Behaviour

Enjoy Appropriate Behaviour, Desiree Akhavan's endearingly frank, bittersweet self-portrait of life as a bi-sexual Iranian-American Brooklynite. Rewatching Appropriate Behaviour reminded me how rarely we see scrappy, imperfect – ie real – women on screen. And how refreshing it is to see them when one is, or knows, imperfect women (ie all of us!). Let alone bisexual women, who get little exposure in films, and a non-white bisexual woman at that. Akhavan herself plays Shirin, an American-Iranian bisexual woman in her 20s, who is not yet out to her parents. At the start of the film she is just breaking up from her girlfriend and the film flits around its timeline in the same messy way that its protagonist’s mind is processing complicated emotions. Shirin is trying to deal with the end of ...

Lady Gaga’s Chromatica is a hymn to freedom.

Lady Gaga’s Chromatica is a hymn to freedom.

Mother Monster is back with a new exciting album. She announced the release of this album and teased us with Stupid Love and Rain On Me… and now, the entire album is finally out and available also on Spotify for us, Little Monsters. If her singles 'Stupid Love', 'Rain On Me', and the newly-released 'Sour Candy'  - featuring K-pop superstars Blackpink - might have indicated a return to a more electro-pop Gaga, the Album Chromatica confirms Sailor Chromatica’s commitment to a track-list able to deliver dancefloor-ready and bangers songs celebrating freedom and escapism. And we love it! Someone said “we like this album because Gaga is back to the kind of pop-music she delivered when she begun”… and it might be true, but she is doing even more by delivering us some '90s techno and house s...

Film recommendation: And Then We Danced

And Then We Danced is a gorgeous film set in the world of Georgian folk dancer and looks at love and desire, tradition and innovation, exploring aspects of masculinity. Young male dancer Merab has been training since an early age at the National Georgian Ensemble with his dance partner Mary. His aim is to join the main ensemble which will settle his career as well as giving him opportunities to travel abroad. But his world changes when the charismatic and carefree Irakli arrives, becoming both his strongest rival and his forbidden desire. Levan Gelbakhiani, a dancer who had not acted professionally before, gives a wonderful, open-hearted performance as Merab. He holds our gaze, with his beauty and talent but also with his open-hearted portrayal of a character who is bound to his homelan...

PIxar’s OUT: a new story with a gay character.

After Officer Spencer, the lesbian character in Onward, Pixar includes always more LGBT+ characters in their movies. One small step for Pixar, one giant leap for LGBT+ presence in animations movies. Pixar released Out, a new short animation film that features the first gay main character in the studio’s three-decade history. This family-friendly film (which is available to stream on Disney+) follows Greg’s story who’s preparing to move into a big city apartment with his boyfriend, Manuel. Greg, however, hasn’t come out to his parents yet, and the things get even more interesting when his parents surprisingly show up to help him pack. The story gets even ‘trickier’ - but in a nice and fun way - but, with the help of his dog, and a little bit of magic, Greg learns that he has nothing to h...

Redhotguyofinsta is the account that cheers you up … and not only!

If you love a ginger-guy, then this is the account you were looking for. I know, Instagram is full of spectacular accounts showing wonderful pictures and contents, but if like me, you have a passion for red-haired guys, then Redhotguyofinsta is THE account you want to follow. https://www.instagram.com/p/CATZkT6By_r/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link There's something for everyone. And no, it is not the usual account where you only find models that make you feel like "yeah, ok, that guy does not have job and spends his time in the gym...if I had the same chances I would be even better than him".... (don't tell me I'm the only one that thinks like this). The account is full of real red-guys' pictures coming from their profiles. Yeah, ok, some of them might be real models and famous gu...

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande together for ‘Rain On Me’, and we are loving it!

It’s Friday hotties, and on Fridays we like a brand new track, especially if this is from Lady Gaga Featuring Ariana Grande. Yes, they’ve put their talents together and decided to give the gay whatever they want, and hey, they’re rocking! Mother Monster announced this new collaboration last month and the expectations were clearly and obviously high. The two singers did not let us down delivering us a special electro-pop track, that also brings some '90s house rhythms and make us wanna dance, even under the rain. Speaking to Lowe, Lady Gaga said: “Ariana and I connected right away and she was so wonderful. And I think maybe she assumed that it’d be that she came in and I (would be) like, ‘Here, just sing this and thank you so much for your time.’ Right? But instead I asked her what she n...
