Cubita from Festival da Canção 2022, opens up about her passion for music and her dreams.

We had a lovely chat with Cubita from Festival da Canção 2022 on this Road To Eurovision, and she told us about her amazement for music and her dreams as a singer and as girl. Cubita, participating in Festival da Canção 2022 in Portugal, is a very shy but sweet girl. Her tough appearance is only a mask that covers one of the most gentle and kind girls we’ve ever had the chance to interview on our Road to Eurovision Song Contest. We asked her many questions and talked with her about her participation in Festival da Canção and what would mean for her being part of Eurovision Song Contest too. What really surprised us, and gave Raffa teary eyes (always so emotional, ed) - was the answer she gave to our tricky final question, showing us what a sweet and strong woman Cubita is.  Watch...

Film recommendation – Steelers

Start your week with a sporting endeavour – which also explores mental health and the importance of community. STEELERS (currently on Amazon Prime) tells the story of the ‘world’s first gay rugby club’, which was set up in 1995 in London’s Kings Cross. There are now 60 such clubs around the world and every two years they gather for the world tournament of gay rugby, the Bingham Cup. The film is made by one of the club’s former players, Australian reporter Eammon Ashton-Atkinson, who decided to document his team’s endeavours after a concussion meant he couldn’t play. He himself found the club when he moved to London from Australia, struggling with depression, and found a team which welcomed him, helped him get fit again and, ultimately, introduced him to his future husband. As well a...

Festival di Sanremo selects their first “transvestite” co-host: Drusilla Foer

After so many years and after great critiques over the too-catholic and family oriented style of Festival di Sanremo, Amadeus (the host) has finally given the LGBT+ people someone they can see themselves in, selecting Drusilla Foer as his co-host for the kermesse. The National Festival of the Italian Song - Festival di Sanremo 2022 - is about to start in less than 3 weeks, and after all the critiques received in the past years, for being “too catholic and/or family oriented”, their main Host - Amadeus - who’s already hosted Sanremo in the past, selected among others, Drusilla Foer to be his co-host during the festival. The choice, of course, comes as a big surprise for the Italian audience, that is used to a very long, too times boring, 5-evenings-event, where the winner also got the cha...

Santa’s Gay Love is what we all need for Christmas

Santa Claus pictured in a gay-love relationship in this heartwarming Norwegian tv spot, and marks 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Norway (1972). The Norwegians Postal Services this year decided that yes, they wanted to promote their (apparently very reliable and on time) services, but they also wanted to touch the heart of millions of people… and not only in Norway. The clip depicts the developing and always stronger relationship between Santa Claus and another man, who he visits each Christmas over a number of years. https://youtu.be/tyQ6qD-u-J8 The clip is impressive, not only because it pictures Santa Claus in love with a man, but because it also touches themes which are very delicate and too many times left unspoken, such as loneliness and that feelin...

Switzerland announces dates for the first same-sex weddings in the country

After the life-changing referendum in the country, Switzerland announced that same-sex weddings will take place from 1st July 2022. You will surely remember the great victory of that 64.1% of voters that wanted equal rights for the Swiss population, and now, the government finally announced that the first same-sex weddings in the country will start to be celebrated from 1st July 2022. We do have to remember though, that since 2007, the country has allowed civil partnerships for same-sex couples. This big change in the constitution of the country, will also mean that same-sex couples will be allowed adopt children together, that was only restricted to straigh-married-couples in Switzerland before this law.  The Swiss Government also announced that starting on 1st January 2022, Sw...

National Coming Out Day 2021 – Love and embrace your-real-self!

National Coming Out Day 2021 marks again an important milestone for the LGBT+ Community from all around the world, and on this day, we really should be taking a moment for ourselves and understand why Coming Out is so important for us and our wellbeing.  National Coming Out Day was created by Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary to inspire future generations of LGBT+ people to express themselves and their identity publicly, with no fears and proudly. Are there benefits from Coming Out? Yes, there are. And we shall not underestimate their importance. First of all we need to understand that coming out can have positive mental health benefits on us: too many LGBT+ people feel pressure every day when trying to hide part of themselves, and keeping their identities a secret can feed low se...

Vatican VS Italy for LGBT+ rights

The State of Vatican has just started a sort of diplomatic war against Italy while the Italian Parliament gets ready to discuss a law against Homophobia. If Italy is a very socially advanced country where finally same-sex unions are granted by the legislation and have almost same rights as a heterosexual marriage, surely it is still not a country where the LGBT+ population is fully protected against discrimination and abuse We have already spoken here about the Zan Bill Proposal (aka DDL Zan) and that still, after more than year since the PM Alessandro Zan proposed this bill, and after the thousands of revisions that the entire bill received from the right and conservative opposition, the Italian Parliament was almost ready to start the final discussion in order to approve and pass the...

Carl Nassib comes out as Gay

Carl Nassib is the first NFL player to publicly come out as gay making history. Carl Nassib, this hot dude in the video below, came out as gay in an Instagram video he shared last Monday afternoon, becoming the first active gay player in National Football League history to come out while signed to a team. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQZXu_8nyy_/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link His message is clear, direct and open-hearted: "I’m at my house in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now but finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I really have the best life, the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for. I’m a pretty private person so I hope you guys know that I’m not doing this for a...

Happy Pride Month 2021

Happy Pride Month 2021 - we are to celebrate life, diversity, love and inclusion. This past couple of years have been very complicated for the whole world, for sure, but for the LGBT+ community, things have been even worst - sometimes. This pandemic forced people to live together in narrow spaces: too often LGBT+ people had to live in hostile environments and their lives, their mental health were put in serious risk. June is the month when we celebrate Pride globally: we also celebrate life, inclusion, we scream out loud our right to exist, to live and love, to have a decent life and get our rights recognised. June is generally the month when we start marching our Pride Parades, or at least we used to, before Covid-19 messed up with our lives.  I would therefore love to begin this mon...
