National Coming Out Day 2021 – Love and embrace your-real-self!

National Coming Out Day 2021 marks again an important milestone for the LGBT+ Community from all around the world, and on this day, we really should be taking a moment for ourselves and understand why Coming Out is so important for us and our wellbeing.  National Coming Out Day was created by Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary to inspire future generations of LGBT+ people to express themselves and their identity publicly, with no fears and proudly. Are there benefits from Coming Out? Yes, there are. And we shall not underestimate their importance. First of all we need to understand that coming out can have positive mental health benefits on us: too many LGBT+ people feel pressure every day when trying to hide part of themselves, and keeping their identities a secret can feed low se...

Mental Health needs TLC: PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ

My whole world came falling down in silence and there was no one there to help cushion the fall.   We walk the streets of London on our way to work every morning. We either wait at the bus stop or we queue to enter the tube. As we stand there, we stand amongst our fellow Londoners. Some dressed in suits ready for work in the city and others in their uniforms. We stand in silence as we await our destination, holding the railings or sitting down, our eyes firmly on the ground. Do you stop to think what might go on in the lives of those that surround you on your daily morning routine ? I sit there and I look at every single person and I try to imagine what their lives might be like. By the expression people carry, nine times out of ten you can tell if they are in muddy waters. I sit...

Pakistan: First transgender policewoman to become trans victims support officer.

She faced death threats, offences, sexual harassment and did not have an easy life, but these hard times did not stop her. She is the first transgender police officer to become trans victims support officer using her experience to help others. Her name Reem Sharif, and during an interview she said that she intends to prove trans people can be perfect leaders, able to inspire others like her, to help change and stop all those prejudices that have held them back. Reem added: “Unless (trans people) have role models to follow, they will continue in the same footsteps of their predecessors who have survived by begging, dancing or carrying out sex work. But when they see a transgender policewoman or a television anchor or a lawyer, they will realise they can dream and aspire to reach for the s...

United Nations: a response to Covid-19 and the rights of the LGBT+ population

It is time to stop this stigma against LGBT+ population amidst this Coronavirus pandemic.  Too many incidents among the LGBT+ population worldwide accused to be one of the causes of this Covid-19 pandemic brought the United Nations to release a note titled “COVID-19 AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF LGBTI PEOPLE”. There is a clear and urgent request from the High Commission of the UN to stop the stigmatisation of LGBT+ people continuously blamed for disasters, both natural and human, and especially in this historical and delicate time of our lives where we are fighting against a dangerous virus.  The Office of High Commissioner makes clear example to this situation: “LGBTI people have previously been blamed for disasters, both manmade and natural, and there are scattered reports of this happe...

Naples to open a shelter for LGBT+ people amidst Coronavirus outbreak

Naples has a very big heart. People have always been very divided when speaking about Naples: there’s always been and there’ll alway be  who will have good world for this city and who instead will have bad words, it has been and it will always be difficult to find someone who is realistic about this city, someone who can take pros and cons of Naples and analyse them… but hey, this is not the moment to do it. Naples, however, has a great tradition of acceptance and integration (questionable, of course, but in its own way it something unique) of LGBT+ people, and in times of great difficulty this city knows how to show everyone their great heart. As we can read from Il Mattino: "the council has arranged to make a withdrawal of eight thousand euros from the reserve fund to purchase fur...

One World Together At Home: when music makes the world come together.

We are all in this together. This is what we all need to understand and it has been a leading message through out the show yesterday night: every single artist, every single doctor, nurse, first line helper interviewed during One World Together At Home Concert, repeated that this is something touching the entire world, that we are in this together, and together we will get back to normality soon, and to celebrate life again.  Eight hours of spectacular show where singers from all around the globe - some of them I admit I didn’t even know, but at least I found some other artists to listen to - delivering messages of hope and positivity together with their songs; artists that allowed us to “walk” into their houses, into their private lives, leaving all gossips out and opening their heart...
