Cropped haircuts and political idiocy – Pt. 2

Let’s break down the myth that the right Honourable Jeremy Corbyn is a friend of the community. Mr Corbyn has shared platforms with Islamic cleric Sheik Raed Salah, who has called for all homosexuals to be thrown off rooftops, political activist Abu Jaja who demanded that homosexuals have their throats slit from left to right, the three meetings with the Islamic government of Tunisia who have implemented homosexuality as a punishable crime, the multiple private gatherings with the ex leader of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who publicly hanged homosexuals while Corbyn was and still is on Iran’s payroll and last but not least a large donation to the Labour party by the world renown Holocaust denier David Irwin was gracefully accepted (you can imagine what his stance would be on homosexuality con...

So, if I don't look like that, does it mean I'm less lesbian than you? Today’s statement on what a lesbian must look like has been thwarted and dismembered by the ‘lesbian fashionistas’. Their statement does not cease at fashion but overlaps to what you should weigh and the requirement of lesbian behaviour. Dress codes change through time but the disputed distinctive lesbian look is today’s glorified symbol: Cropped haircuts, baggy clothes and bright or dark colours are acceptable. My goal was to research on how the older lesbians perceive the rose to fame lesbian community. I had found a lady that I had met at a monthly meet-up in London’s famous Retro Bar. Little did I know, the story I was seeking was about to open an entirely new chapter parallel to my initial works. I had carefully prepared triggering questions only to find myself engulfed and thrown deep into the life of an individual, who at first glance one would consider to be your usual Londoner having her well deserved pint after a long day at w...

Being fat in an unloved community: Are we deserving of a fairytale ending ?

Love is difficult enough without having physical constraints that prevent good first impressions. As a lesbian, it is harder to find your soulmate. We are limited in our small community and having to work with a bare minimum is always a challenge. Does the fairy tale ending exist for us ? I have spent many sleepless nights consumed by diving into my imagination of spending moments with my soulmate. Like many women, I dream of a wedding filled with sharing love and happiness with friends and family. It wasn’t until in the early hours of Thursday morning that I had decided to watch an episode of Australian ‘Married at First Site’. I fell upon a lesbian couple called Amanda and Tash. Their wedding melted my heart. The smiles, the giggles, the happiness all around was magical; it gave...
