At The Gayly Mirror we have analysed for long times how people around us use the acronyms and the words that describe our community, the LGBT+ community. We have tried to understand what is their reception in heterosexual community and how many people really know and understand their meanings. A display of how a Homemade Pride parade during Covid 19 brings together, not only the LGBTQ+ community, but Everyone! After writing a recent post about how essential it is to educate children and young people on the importance of LGBTQ issues and history; I decided to follow that up with a Pride Parade celebration during Lockdown of Covid 19. Andrzej Duda - president of Poland - continues his homophobic attacks and now he has accused the media of spreading “fake news” about his homophobic views. He has just signed a sweeping anti-LGBT pledge - as we reported here - and even with proofs of his words and acts against all LGBT+ rights in this country, he is denying his homophobic acts. Understanding lesbian labels and their purpose. Are we conforming to heteronormativity? The terms femme, butch, stud, stem, (along with many others) are continuously thrown around when it comes to the lesbian community, with these terms seeming much more prominent in the past few years. But why? Where did they even come from? The use of lesbian labels originated in the 1890s, with butch referring to a female butcher, “a hard-fisted woman of the people”. It all started when JK Rowling took issue with an article in Devex, the media platform for the global development community, with the headline: “Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.” You may ask your-self why.
