Shoah: when remembering gives us hope for a better future.

For many of us, YomHaShoa - or day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Shoha - is a sad, almost mournful time every year. But then… why is it important to remember if it can hurt so much? As a gay and Jewish person, Remembering (and honouring) the victims of the Shoah is something I do almost every day, it is a good exercise for the memory, but also for my own sense of thankfulness: how lucky are we to be living in so much comfort and peace, in our houses, now? Certainly one could say that we do still have that feeling of “something’s still missing in my life”… but hey! We are here, we are safe, we are alive, and - again - in the full comfort of our own houses. My Grandmother - when still alive - used to remind me of how during deportation she had to flee her city, her parents escaped a...

Polands gets even more homophobic with their president picturing the LGBT+ community as enemies.

And some people still ask why we need Gay Prides every year. The air in Poland is getting barely breathable for the LGBT+ community that after the “LGBT+ free zones” are now being portrayed as enemies by Poland’s president which is looking for a second term of power in this month of elections. To make sure he gets a better social impact on the population, Andrzej Duda pleased those nazi-catholic groups of people (including religious representatives) by signing a “family-values-declaration”, where he promised to always “protect children from LGBT+ ideology” and prohibit the spread of such ideas involving public institutions that will have to make sure that nothing like this will ever happen. President Duda said: “This is a foreign ideology that we won’t allow to be introduced into our cou...

The lesbian politics of utopian socialism: The abused have become the abusers.

History has not been taken as a lesson that should be remembered, learnt and avoid past errors but we are far too careless and ignorant to take responsibility. The lesbian community was one of acceptance and played a leading role in tolerance from the 1950’s until the late 2000’s. There were two descriptive characters to name the limited variety of lesbian brackets: The famed feminist fems who were renown for their trails of heartbreaks and social justice fights and the butch who resembled the manners of a gentleman with a slight touch of roughness around the edges. The community then could be described as an embracing entity compared to today’s need of approval. What was once a welcoming and tolerant scenery has become a mere snub in the dark, where one has to behave, think and l...

Cropped haircuts and political idiocy – Pt. 2

Let’s break down the myth that the right Honourable Jeremy Corbyn is a friend of the community. Mr Corbyn has shared platforms with Islamic cleric Sheik Raed Salah, who has called for all homosexuals to be thrown off rooftops, political activist Abu Jaja who demanded that homosexuals have their throats slit from left to right, the three meetings with the Islamic government of Tunisia who have implemented homosexuality as a punishable crime, the multiple private gatherings with the ex leader of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who publicly hanged homosexuals while Corbyn was and still is on Iran’s payroll and last but not least a large donation to the Labour party by the world renown Holocaust denier David Irwin was gracefully accepted (you can imagine what his stance would be on homosexua...
