Senhit: a Eurovision star fighting to improve Women’s lives

This second lock-down for Covid-19 around the world has shown very worrying numbers when it comes to Domestic violence. This is why Senhit - famous Eurovision start from Italy (representing San Marino) - has decided to act against these cases of violence and to do so she has started a cooperation with Pangea, an Italian non-profit organisation that works internationally. The idea was born from the artistic duo Senhit formed together with Luca Tommassini - the internationally famous Italian dancer and choreographer - victim of domestic violence when he was only a child. In a video posted on Instagram Senhit said: "Staying locked at home is difficult for everyone, but in these months of isolation those who live in situations of violence have little chance of escape. In Italy alone, th...

Joe Biden promises new strengths to LGBT+ rights.

President-elect Joe Biden says he will get rid of Trump’s anti-LGBT+ actions as soon as he will effectively be in charge from January 2021. Nest US president is promising big changes to make up to some of the damages done by Trump, especially when it comes to LGBT+ rights around the states: the ban on Transgender Military Personnel and Trump’s ‘freedom to discriminate’ initiatives will be apparently erased as of January 2021. According to Associated Press, Biden will confirm Obama’s rules barring anti-LGBT+ discrimination for Federal Contractors, he will then create high-level positions on LGBT+ rights in all federal agencies and will act on schools too. Nicolas Talbott, a transgender man who started a legal action over Trump’s military ban, told the Press: “I look forward to be...

UK: Transgender teenager takes legal action over the years-long wait faced by young people requesting appointments with NHS specialists

The UK is not facing easy times due to the Pandemic caused by Coronavirus, the Brexit which is approaching in less than 40 days and  the NHS which is fighting not to collapse under the hit of Covid-19 cases.  There is one thing, though, that is not depending on the obove situation, and for which the NHS will have to provide some explanations: their waiting times both for transgender adults and children that have waiting times of years!  NHS waiting time is 18 weeks, but some patients have to wait over 193 weeks only to get to their initial appointment. Things are harder for teen-trans, as there is only one clinic for young people seeking transition in the entire country of her Majesty Elizabeth II. Reece, a 14-year-old-boy, has started a legal action with the support of legal activi...

Bracelona: Trans teenager brutally attacked on Trans Day of Remembrance

Eva Vildosola, only 19 moved to Barcelon to find some peace and live her live normally, but that “peace” was brutally broken by two men who attacked her and called her a “monster” as soon as she left her house on Friday 20th Novemeber. Not a day like the others, especially for the Trans community worldwide, but the TDOR 2020, that honours, mourns and celebrate all the Trans people around the world and that falls in a horrible year for the entire LGBT+ population that because of the Covid-19 pandemic has faced even more issues and barriers than ever before.  According to La Vanguardia, a local newspaper, the incident is being investigated by the Catalan police, who are trying to identify her attackers alongside the Barcelona Hate Crimes Prosecutor’s Office. Eva decided to denounce th...

Italian Political Panorama gets enriched with a completely LGBT+ Party: Partito Gay

Italy is facing a big social revolution which has seen the approval of an Anti-Homophobia Act and the creation of a political party made of all LGBT+ representatives. The press conference to present this new party to the world, opens with a touching and still so real video of LGBT+ people around Italy that have suffered and still suffer from Homophobic attacks and offences. Some of them, as they tell us in the video, still receive today death threatens or get publicly offended and threatened on social media simply for being who they are. All these witnesses have been spontaneously submitted by LGBT+ people around Italy to a project called #LGBTLivesMatter (launched by Gay Center Roma) during the first lock-down due to Covid-19. Fabrizio Marrazzo famous Italian LGBT+ activist, founder...

Film recommendation: Cocoon

Cocoon is a gorgeous coming-of-age tale, a celebration of the long hot summer of 2018 and a sweet story of a teenage girl discovering her feelings for another young woman. 14-year-old Berliner Nora is waking up to the world – she still nurtures her caterpillars but is watching the world around her and learning about it and about who she wants to be. Her older sister Jule is affectionate but dismissive, caught up in a world of BFFs, parties and boys, plus the terminal embarrassment of having a younger sister hanging around. The pair of them have to deal with a young mother who is out partying more than she is there for the two teenagers; though she clearly loves them, she is wrestling with demons of her own. Then Nora meets Romy, the cool new girl at school, and her life changes. She ...

#MusicFriday – New music release – LE DEVA

We met Le Deva when they released their first song in support of the LGBT+ community in Italy, the song was called "L'amore merita" (that according to the lyrics I would translate as "Love deserves to be freely lived") - and now they're out with a new single "Brillare da sola". (tr. shining alone). The group was born in 2016 and is a girl-band who had a past in talent shows in Italy. In their songs they have always been singing about equal rights and equal love for everyone. "Brillare da sola" is an invitation to find in our-selves the strength to face our everyday "battles" and to stop looking for support from other people that sometimes may suddenly disappear from our lives and leave us down. Roberta Pompa, Greta Manuzzi, Laura Bono and Verdiana Zangaro form Le Deva and this new s...

Dolche releases Exotic Diorama – a new album that touches our souls.

We spoke to Dolche a few weeks ago and had so much fun with her unique style and costumes. Now she gave birth to her new album and shortly after to her child. Dolche is an independent artist that is able to mix in her music sounds and emotions coming from all over the world. Her new album has been produced between Rome, New York, Beirut and Visby, and it is a very important album - both for the artist but for our entire community - as it is all about LGBT+ life and violence against women.  The album takes his name from the famous dioramas that we can find at the National Museum of Natural History of New York , where each song creates an independent world made of musical influences and atmospheres so distant from one another but  still so matching amongst them. You can dowload an...

Pope Francis and Gay Civil Partnerships: the following day.

"Gay people have the right to a family and to a normal citizenship". Yesterday Pope Francis gave hopes to all those LGBT+ people in Italy who are still waiting on a proper law that would protect them and give them dignity in a country that has still got a lot to do in terms of equal rights. Toda - instead - after all the astonishment that Pope Francis’ words caused both to those conservative bigots and to the LGBT+ population around the world, here we have a little stop to all that joy: "Be careful not to reach wider consequences than the premises. Francis simply says that if two people, even of the same sex, decide to live together, in a form of stable coexistence, they have the right to ensure that their choices are protected. But does not in any way open to marriage between h...
