Sex: that basic human need we know too little about

It's hard to believe that we often talk about our physiological needs (for food, water, sleep, air), but hardly ever do we talk about sex thoughtfully or cleverly. We regularly say or hear things like, "I just had a salad for lunch, now I'm starving." "Sparkling water? Not for me, I'd rather have spring water, though tap water is the best for me." "I couldn't sleep last night. I'm so sleepy right now I can barely keep my eyes open." What about our sex lives? We never mention our sexual needs or habits with anybody but very few super-close friends. We're consistent with the rule that wants sex to be unspoken. If you dare to talk about sex, you are a pig, a pervert, rude, disgusting, and sick. So you know it's not polite to talk about sex, it's wrong. If you do speak about it, you ...

A man in women’s clothing is no lesbian’s wet dream

What you see, might not always be real. My first experience of a sexual assault in a lesbian bar did not come from a woman but from a man dressed as if he was to attend an upmarket soiree - instead, he was roaming the dark, pink and fruitful Candy bar down Deen Street. He dressed in an elegant olive green satin blouse tucked into tight off white slim fitted trousers with heels that were fit for a ball. He wore a light brown wig with ginger highlights and a dark but elegant red lipstick. My initial thoughts were ‘what is he doing in a lesbian bar ?’. Though he looked better than most lesbians in the term of dress sense, he had no place in a lesbian bar if he was to grope women and grope he did. I was thrown against the black railings outside the bar, his hand laying firmly on my pelvis whi...

Friends of the victim have quickly shared the picture of the killer on social medias. The Killer of a young gay man in Italy (Rome) has quickly been identified and arrested for the murder of Alessandro Borrelli, who was killed yesterday afternoon shortly after 6.30 pm in his apartment on the ground floor of Via Cagliari, in the suburbs of Ciampino - Rome. It is not yet clear whether Stefano, who managed to save himself by miracle, was his new partner or just a friend, but it is thanks to the witness of the survivor that police immediately found the killer. Crime of passion is the main hypothesis followed by the investigators, even if other options are not excluded. There may be other people involved. Terror, however, in the complex of public housing, where gunshots rang out sudden...

Eurovision Song Contest 2021 – the updated list of confirmed returning singers

At least someone will get a second chance for Eurovision. We all know that unfortunately, due to Covid-19 pandemic, this year Eurovision Song Contest (live) was cancelled, but at least we are enjoying the show in a different way via youtube, and all fans are celebrating ESC week anyway. Singers - and all their teams - worked very hard for this Eurovision, but they did not have the chance to stand on that stage and compete as they had planned to do till they had the sad news fo the cancellation of the show. As soon as all this happened, the discussion on “allowing singers to come back next year” started and disagreeing voices were heard all around. Well, today at least we know that some of them have been already reconfirmed for Eurovision 2021 and we are very happy to share the up...
The lesbian politics of utopian socialism: The abused have become the abusers.

The lesbian politics of utopian socialism: The abused have become the abusers.

History has not been taken as a lesson that should be remembered, learnt and avoid past errors but we are far too careless and ignorant to take responsibility. The lesbian community was one of acceptance and played a leading role in tolerance from the 1950’s until the late 2000’s. There were two descriptive characters to name the limited variety of lesbian brackets: The famed feminist fems who were renown for their trails of heartbreaks and social justice fights and the butch who resembled the manners of a gentleman with a slight touch of roughness around the edges. The community then could be described as an embracing entity compared to today’s need of approval. What was once a welcoming and tolerant scenery has become a mere snub in the dark, where one has to behave, think and look a ce...

LGBT+ people’s fears across Europe. A new research shows very interesting results.

“We deserve to feel safe in our country without being afraid to hold hands with our spouse. Today, this is not a reality.”  This is what one of the 140,000 interviewed LGBT+ people across Europe, North Macedonia, Serbia and the UK, added to his survey before handing it to FRA - The European Agency for Human Fundamental Rights - that published an interesting data on the quality of life of the European LGBT+ population. The research, called  “A long way to go for LGBTI equality”, touched different and interesting points related to the quality of life of a person and to their fundamental human rights. Data shown in this survey are also compared to a similar survey dated 2012. What is very worrying is the percentage of LGBT+ experiencing discrimination in normal life or even when when l...

Watch the film – and Q&A – God’s Own Country

It’s time for a watch – or rewatch – of 2017’s God’s Own Country – ready for an online Q&A on Sunday 17 May. If you haven’t yet seen 2017’s God’s Own Country, you really, really should; if you have – you will know exactly what I mean. Either way, now is the time for a watch or rewatch, as director Francis Lee and the two lead actors Josh O’Connor and Alec Secareanu are going to be chatting and answering questions live on Picturehouse Facebook and Youtube on Sunday 17 May, 8pm BST. The film is a wonderfully performed and impressively unsentimental story of love and longing in England’s Yorkshire hills. Young sheep farmer Johnny numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of Romanian migrant worker Gheorghe for lambing season ignites an intens...

Costa Rica legalises same sex marriages.

A long battle for same sex couples’ rights that is finally leading to a historical moment in the life of this country. In August, 2018, the Supreme Court of Costa Rica ruled that it was unconstitutional not to allow same-sex couples to get married, setting a time of 18 months for the legislature to make real changes and approve a law that would allow these couple to finally get married. As Q Cosa Rica said int this article,  the country’s Civil Registry will begin processing registrations on 26th May.  Luis Guillermo Chinchilla, senior civil officer of the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones (TSE), to which the Civil Registry is attached, assured that the necessary changes have been made: “The Civil Registry has made significant efforts in adjusting all the computer systems in civil regi...
